I’m bored waiting for my next class, so I’m trying to determine which tires to put on car in the Spring. I’d like to go with 205:50:15s. I’ll have more grip so I can actually make use of the good suspension I put on the car. Plus I dig the more meaty look. But 195s would let me mount BFG Sport Comp 2s, which is the tire option I think would best suit me. This is how the car looks on the wheels mounted with 205:50:15 Hoosier DOT rated slicks.

Are your wheels 15x7? Back when I had my NB, I ran 15x8s with 225/45-15 Hankook RS2s. ;)
If you go with 205/50-15, your options are mostly the street tire class autocross tires, or a few different regular summer tires that probably aren’t as good as the BFGs you mentioned.
Of the assorted street autocross tires, the Falken Azenis RT615K is the most street-friendly in terms of noise & ride comfort, but that’s only in comparison to other street autocross tires.

Yup 15x7. I also don’t want something with a 200 treadwear rating that will only last 10k miles. My choices for 205s are pretty much S.Drives or DZ102s.

This is an old thread but I ended up here somehow so I will answer. I have the DZ102s on my NB and I love those tires for street usage. They work quite well on mountain road adventures, highway comfort, and surviving the rain. I have done one autocross on them and they were not terrible but they also certainly aren’t autox tires. Maybe that is because I usually run Hoosier SM6 slicks but I also earlier ran BFG sportcomp2s which were much better on course than the DZs. The best part about the DZs is how long they last and how cheap they are. I also learned they are downright scary below 45 degrees or so but that is expected with a summer tire.

I’m going with the 195/50/15 size. So I’ll either be buying the BFGs or Hankook RS3s. Mostly just depends on how much $ I want to spend when the time comes.

RS3s are 200TW arent they though?

Yeah, I don’t put that many miles on my car. In 2.5yrs of ownership I’ve only put around 14k miles on her. And some of that includes driving on winter tires.

Well i meant moreso that they dont really compare to the BFGs. The SportComp2s are nice summer tires but they arent RS3 level of grip. I would be comparing the Hankooks to the Bridgestone RE71R if anything.

I knew what you were getting at, they difinitely aren’t in the same class. The Hankooks are still under $100 a tire, the Bridgestones are like $115. I want a good tire but I’m my goal isn’t about trying to win autocross events.

RS3 is definitely a good choice, I have seen many people run them for spirited street driving. I am definitely considering those as a top choice when I get another car and stop driving my Miata 20k+ miles a year.

It was torture while I was home because I kept going down to our basement where the wheels I bought just wait to be mounted on the car. But I have to wait til Spring. The car looks a little odd lowered with stock sized wheels and tires. And the worn AS “performance” tires don’t give the better suspension anything to work with.
